5 Things You Must Consider When Startng A Business.
3/16/2009 12:02:03 PM There are many different areas you must consider when starting your own business, five of these are discussed below. 1. Do I have the personality to start a Business? While you may have a dream to start a business, you should consider the personality and skills you have and decide if this is the right fit for you. A good place to start for an analysis of your personality and skills is the Small Business Administration. On thier website, you can review a variety of issues you should consider in this area. Once you have determined that you have the personality and skills to go forward, have you considered if you will purchase an existing business, a franchise, or start from scratch. 2. Financial Considerations. You often hear of businesses failing within the first year of operation. You should take a realistic approach to your financial situation. Will you be able to survive if the business does not make a profit as quickly as anticiapted, are you able to survive a downturn in your industry? It is important to consider these questions, prior to starting your business and have a realistic expectation of the finances as well. 3. PLAN PLAN PLAN You would not travel to a new destination without a map, why would you start a business without one? You should take the time to access many of the resources available when building your business plan, both online and through other software. Put a solid business plan together that can be used as a guide for you when executing the plan, and for financing the business etc.. 4. What type of entity will you form? Most of the time many people feel that this is a one-size-fits-all proposition, they may tell you that you should always form an S-corp or always form an LLC. However, everyone has a unique situation that will require a review of the advantages and disadvantages of each entity in regards to the legal and tax consequences of each. 5. Use available resources. Having an attorney and CPA available to discuss the important legal and tax implications of your business is an important first step. Also consider that your business may have additional licensing or other requirements that ae necessary. Utilize the local chamber of commerce and state agencies that are in place to assist you in navigating this area. |
